Is The Market Saturated For New Ebay Stores?

By Larry Grayson

On the eBay marketplace, everyday goods are classified as general goods. General items encompass a wide range of item but not limited to bulk consumable, tools and hobby supplies. There will be buyers for general goods all year long on Ebay.

This is not to say that the market for such items never fluctuates because it does, but the rises and falls happen over much longer periods of time and tend to be less dramatic. One pitfall for sellers of general goods is market saturation - for example: if someone is browsing Ebay and notices that bulk yarn is fetching a decent price, they will be tempted to list yarn of their own. This will cause the market to become saturated, although this scenario generally happens over a period of time. Try to avoid losing revenue due to competition, so do a search to find other products that are being sold that might be similar to yours. When too many items of the same kind are being sold, you risk losing your profit or even forced to sell at below cost prices so try listing other items in the meantime and keep the saturated items until competition has decreased.

Refurbished or previously owned items can be offered on Ebay at lower prices than new items and will improve your bottom line. People are always looking for a way to save money, so this is a fantastic way to do it. Never compromise honesty for money if you want long term success. You run the risk of getting a bad reputation and a negative feedback if you deliver goods that are below the expectations of the customer.

When selling general products on Ebay it is easy to project the outcome because most of the time this will produce similar results to an offline trading of similar products. This is a niche that you cannot have excellent customer service if you want to be player in this marketplace. Do not expect to make millions of dollars in sales overnight in this area, however.

Be realistic with your goals and while there are true stories about sellers who made instant fortunes on Ebay, for every overnight success, there are thousands who have to use hard work and common sense to make ends meet. Aim for a solid supplemental income and then slowly expand your business until it can be your sole endeavor. Diversify, diversify, diversify because you don't want to depend on one item, or even a few items, to generate your income. If you diversify your offers then the slow sales of one product will not affect the overall income you derive.

There is always a demand for general goods on eBay. Give it a shot and set up your store on eBay. Once our reputation is established, you can expect to make lots of money through this marketplace Exercise patience and take time to build your reputation and the trust of your customers.
