More About Publishing and Publishing Companies

Research is something many writers dislike and find daunting or even intimidating. In truth, as a writer, you are doing research all the time: when you're riding the bus or train to work, when you're traveling on vacation, when you're having a lively discussion-or better yet an argument-with a friend or colleague. Everything you experience and observe is research. This is what's called non-directed research. Writers, like all artists, are reporters of life, actively participating and observing. A writer is an opportunist, gathering her data through her daily life experiences.

First, the author must alert all family and friends to a book release party. This is the party that sets your book into motion with the rest of the books out there. The best thing about a book release party is that most of your family and friends have other friends, therefore, with or without them accompanying one of the guests, word of mouth will travel about a great party along with an exceptional new book. Surrounding communities will hear of the celebration, and because of this, will pay close attention to any and all marketing pertaining to the book release party, begin to ask questions creating the much needed buzz. Some may even request an invite to the party just to be in the mix!

Numerous companies of major publishers have full divisions dedicated to a single franchise. This would include the likes of Ballantine Del Ray Lucasbooks which has the rights to Star Wars in the US, the Random House in UK and Century Lucasbooks that has the same rights in the UK. BBC also owns publishing divisions that perform very well with a long series like Doctor Who.

It is the publisher that commonly controls the marketing and other advertising tasks but it can subcontract various features of the process in order to expert publisher marketing agencies. In several companies, layout designs, proofreading, editing and other features of production processes are made by freelancers.

Dedicated in-home salespeople are rarely replaced by some companies that concentrate in sales up to chain stores, wholesalers and bookshops for a fee. This style is accelerating as supermarkets and book chains have centralized their selling techniques.
