Stop Squeaking Shoes

By Ava De Luca

So, I was searching around in my closet for the perfect pair of shoes for the day when I stumbled upon a pair of brand new shoes that I had bought a couple months ago and never wore, how that happen still have no idea. I got so excited when they matched my outfit perfectly.

The morning was perfect until I started walking around in the office. I soon realized that my brand new sandals were squeaking so bad that they were practically screaming out to everyone that I walked by. In a last effort to save this new shoes that I love so much, I started looking around for ways to make new shoes to stop squeaking and here are some of the great ideas that I found.

1. Wet shoes can be a problem. You need to let them dry thoroughly either in a dryer or air dry. A great idea for athletic shoes is to put them in the dryer on tumble.

2. Try rubbing shoe conditioner into the entire shoe, paying closest attention to areas where parts of the shoe rub together naturally, like the holes for the laces and the upper part of the tongue.

3. Sometimes you can tell the exact spot it is coming from. If you have noticed that it comes from the tongue you can use saddle soap for a quick remedy. All you have to do is rub it in enough to really get it working.

4. Use baby powder or cornstarch. This is my favorite method since it is easy and uses products I always have around the house. Lift the insole out of the shoe and sprinkle the powder inside, replace insole and give the entire shoe a light dusting. Allow to sit overnight and wear the next day.

5. heels also can cause squeaking if they happen to be lose. If you find that the heel is the problem, buy some strong super glue and clamp it together until completely dry.

6. If all else fails, spray lightly with silicone spray. It acts much like WD-40 and will not harm the leather.

Hopefully after youve tried some of the above suggestions youve been able to find great success. If not and you absolutely cant part with your shoes try a local shoe repair shop. They will definitely be able to help you get rid of that annoying noise. If none of the above options work and you love the shoes, try talking to your local shoe repair shop to see if they have any suggestions.
