Top 7 Things You Can Do to Make Your MySpace Unique

By Scarlet Driscol

A MySpace profile is one of the best ways to express yourself on the web. With millions of members, it can be hard to stand out from the rest of the pack. Here are some cool things that you can do to your MySpace profile so it really feels like your little corner of the web.

Make your background unique and express your personality. There are literally hundreds of thousands of free MySpace backgrounds available on the web. You can have a new MySpace background everyday of the week! Find one that has your favorite colors, or pictures of your favorite band or movie. You can even go to a photo sharing site like Flickr and find a unique photo to use as a background.

MySpace has now given users even more control with the new Profile 2.0. While some users are resisting to move to the new profile editor, I think it is worth looking at. Not only can you change the background and colors, but you can rearrange the sections of the profile the way you want. You can also do much of the work yourself without having to find codes.

I am surprised how many MySpace users still haven't made a custom URL to make it easier to find their profile. When you first signup, the URL to your profile is something like this: myspace.com/33657771. MySpace will let you change the string of random numbers to whatever you want, as long as it isnt already taken. Most people change this URL to their name or nickname. It is a good way to help people remember how to find you.

Did you know that MySpace is now giving away email addresses? Whenever you create a custom URL, that nickname that you create also becomes an email. If your MySpace profile is myspace.com/fairycutey then your email address would be fairycutey@myspace.com. The cool part is that your emails are delivered right to your MySpace inbox.

The most creative part of your MySpace profile can be your headline. This is where you get to tell the world what you are all about in 2 seconds or less. Use a quote that you like, or even better, make up your own! The headline is also a great way to let friends know what is on your mind or what you are going through.

What does your occupation really say about you? Have fun with what you put in this spot on your profile. You could put what you are really passionate about. Maybe that is your job, maybe it isn't. This is a really great way to stand out from the crowds.

They say that a picture is a thousand words and a video is worth a thousand pictures. You can collect videos that you like and embed them on your MySpace profile. By adding video, visitors to your profile will really get a sense of who you are and you will make new friends.

Social networking is a fun and easy way to make new friends with people that you have things in common with. Make sure and make your profile easy to let people know who you are and what you like. Make it unique and you will stand out!
