Niche Marketing

By David Lim

Niche marketing is marketing that is focused specifically on the needs of a very targeted group of users. Such a market is typically not large, so that the competition is manageable for the new players.

In the online world, niche marketing is primarily concerned with niches in which the search engine competition is low. Normally, you will carry out the following steps:

* Identify keywords that has the most potential in terms of either Adsense revenue or product sales or both.

* Build a website to target those keywords.

* Optimize the content in your blog posts or website pages for the search engines, keeping in mind the keywords targeted.

* Build links to your site or blog by submitting articles, submitting your site or blog to directories and exchanging links with other webmasters.

* Just continue building backlinks using the previous techniques until your blog or website is ranked in the position that you want in Google.

There are many variations of the above steps as they will depend on your strengths, your long term goals and the topic of the website or blog in question. What is listed above are the normal steps carried out.

Investment Needed

In my opinion, you must pay for your domain name and web hosting. They will cost you less than $11 per month. The advantages of paying for those far weighs the small cost incurred.

There are other services you might want to consider spending money on as they will increase your productivity, and in the long run, give you a better return on the time you spent:

* Good content for your blogs, articles and websites is key to your success and, unfortunately, also takes the most time to generate. Paying for articles to be written might be a good investment.

* Services that automate the submission of your articles to article directories, blogs and websites.

* Services that reduces the time it takes to get good anchored backlinks to your site.

Skills Needed

A relatively good command of English would definitely be recommended, especially if you intend to write the content and articles yourself. You don't have to be a writer, but you must at least be able to write grammatically correct sentences and be disciplined enough to spell check your work.

When you are starting out, you will be doing a lot of the computer and web related work yourself. You will find yourself installing software, updating your name servers, configuring your web hosting package, and other related stuff. You don't have to be a computer whiz as instructions will be provided, but you do have to be computer literate enough to understand those instructions.

Niche marketing is not a job but a business. And in any business, a spirit of entrepreneurship would be needed. While I have broken down the marketing process into a few simple steps, the details of how to implement each step varies for different people, different websites, different keywords, etc. Each niche also presents unique challenges that you, as the entrepreneur, must meet.
